FAREWELL: Icon Kobe Bryant signs off his career

THE TOWEL that LA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant wore over his shoulders after playing in the final game of his NBA career sold for more than $30,000 at auction recently.

Bryant wore the towel while making his retirement speech just over the Utah Jazz on April 13. He finished his 20-year career with five NBA titles and 18 All-Star game appearances. Bryant scored 60 points in the Lakers’ 101-96 win over the Utah Jazz on that night.

Bryant and eight others, including his teenage daughter Gianna, were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas on January 26.

Jeff Woolf, president of Iconic Auctions, told CNN that the buyer is known for having the largest collection of Lakers memorabilia worldwide.

“He is a devoted Lakers fan,” Woolf said. “His long-term plan is to create a museum in Southern California.”
