Pioneer Carol Glenn launches first Black owned motor racing team

Next Racing Generation is set to cause a stir in the motorsport sector

HISTORY: Carol Glenn

A NEW racing team, aimed at encouraging more young people from underrepresented groups to consider motorsport as a career, has been launched. Next Racing Generation (NRG) is set to cause a stir in the motorsport sector.

NRG is founded by the UK’s first Black woman to become a licensed race official.  Carol Glenn was inspired to create NRG after she became determined to provide more diversity within the industry.

Launching on the heels of one of the sector’s biggest motoring event, Autosport International Connect (ASI) which took place a few days ago, NRG aims to shake up the sector.

Carol said of her new venture: “It feels that this is the perfect timing to launch when most of motorsport will be focused on the future of the sector ahead of the 2021 season.

“I am delighted that we are now officially launched,” she continues. “NRG will be now be able to make a start working with people from diverse backgrounds to help their entry into the world of motorsport across the sector. I look forward to engaging with key stakeholders who will be able to help NRG on our journey.”

NRG’s initiatives aim to take young ambitious people, in particular those from underrepresented groups, into the world of motorsport, accessing all areas from race mechanics, marshalling, Esports right through to karting in bambino to F1 rookie status upwards.

Carol plans to encourage drivers from any diverse background to undertake training in the sector as a career. The NRG team will cover a range of areas such as race management, driver coaching, media training and mentoring.

One of the first major initiatives currently in the planning stage is an exciting Esport event which will take place at the Red Bull Gaming Centre in Shoreditch, East London, between July 29 – August 2.

“We’re looking for any 16 plus year-olds from diverse backgrounds who would like the opportunity to come a step closer to Formula 1, learn about professional Esports and Sim rig racing, and even to show off your skills behind the wheel. We’re urging them to contact us via the website,” said Carol.

Truly pioneering and not before time, this hopefully will allow talented individuals from black and ethnic minorities to demonstrate their skills and intellect in a sport almost shut off to them.

I am sure Sir Lewis and other influential black individuals once aware will support you Carol on your endeavours

    Well done!!
