The fastest woman alive graces Hidden Greatness

Olympian Carmelita Jeter doesn't hold back in podcast series finale

JET FUEL: Carmelita Jeter

THE SEASON finale of the Hidden Greatness podcast features American former athlete Carmelita Jeter and she doesn’t hold back.

Waxing lyrical about the differences between the way male and female athletes are treated and portrayed, Jeter said the fairer sex seemed to be pitted against each other beyond the organic parameters of sport.

She enthused: “So many times the media likes to pin women of colour against each other to make it seem like there can only be one great woman out there.”

The 100m IAAF World champion in 2011, and a three-time Olympic medallist opens-up on the show about how she had to adopt her mindset to become a world beater.

Taking shots at the snipers who detract from the sport by attributing every positive and ground breaking performance to drugs, Jeter says: “When guys run fast and break the world record it’s put up on pedestals.”

She added: “When I run 10-6 it was more of a, ‘how did she do that?’, ‘Was she clean when she did that?’”

Touching on the lack of mental preparedness athletes are exposed to prior to their careers getting going, Jeter, who now coaches, added: “I always tell people, Nike and everybody, when you’re doing great things they cut you cheques, but nobody tells you how to deal with being broken.”
