Could Floyd Mayweather really buy Premier League Newcastle United?

American boxing legend in link to buy northeast football outfit

POSSIBILITIES: Floyd Mayweather

FLOYD ‘MONEY’ Mayweather has been linked with a potential bid to buy Premier League Newcastle United.

Mayweather, one of the greatest boxers of all time has expressed a desire to buy the top-flight outfit, should the opportunity arise.

“In the US we call it soccer, but the Newcastle football team is an unbelievable team. A hell of a team,” he said recently when asked during a fan Q&A  in Newcastle whether or not he would like to buy the club, as quoted by TMZ.

He added: “If the people want me to buy the Newcastle team, let me know!”

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has had a negative relationship with United fans over the years and any Mayweather intervention would be a huge boost for the club.

American Mayweather won all 50 of his professional fights with 27 knockouts during a stellar career.

Mayweather is one of the most lucrative pay-per-view attractions of all time, in any sport. He topped the Forbes and Sports Illustrated lists of the 50 highest-paid athletes of 2012 and 2013, and the Forbes list again in both 2014 and 2015.
