COVENTRY BASED boxing apparel company BOXRAW have kitted out the Anguilla team participating at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

In a game-changing donation, BOXRAW stepped in to provide top-quality training and competition kit for the Anguilla team after they were nearly forced to pull out of the Games due to a lack of kit.

The Caribbean territory had not sourced sponsors in time for the Games and without the appropriate training and competition kit, would not be able to participate at Birmingham 2022.

Facilitated by the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee, the partnership between Team Anguilla and BOXRAW delivers on the Games’ ongoing commitment to support local businesses in the region, leaving a legacy even after the final medal has been awarded.

A Team Anguilla spokesperson said: Team Anguilla is very grateful for the kind gesture from BOXRAW with the supply of boxing kit. We are proud to wear the kit from BOXRAW at the Games, and it’s given a big boost to the confidence of both Curlun Richardson and Japheth Olton as they set out to make the small population of 15,000 at home and those in the diaspora very proud.”

Ben Ammana, Managing Director of BOXRAW said: “When we were asked to donate kit to Anguilla’s boxing team it was a no-brainer for us at BOXRAW. For most of these guys, this is a career and lifetime highlight, and the fact that they were without any team gear sounded ridiculous to us.

“Boxing is a family regardless of where you’re from or how much money you have so we’d never stand by and watch someone struggle, especially with such a monumental event like the Commonwealth Games.

“Supporting Anguilla also aligns perfectly with our charity, Boxing Is Love. The charity is using boxing as a mechanism for change but building boxing gyms across the developing world in west and south Africa along with numerous boxing programmes for disadvantaged youths across the UK and USA.”
