Ravel Morrison joins Sheffield United on trial

Ex-Manchester United star set for pre-season tour in Portugal

TRIAL: Ravel Morrison

RAVEL MORRISON’S goal of rebuilding his club career has taken a step forward as he has joined Sheffield United as a triallist today (July 2).

The 26-year-old is due for training today with the club, and has been selected to be part of the Premier League new boys’ pre-season tour of Portugal.

Yet Morrison, a former Manchester United starlet who was once rated as the most gifted young player Sir Alex Ferguson worked with at Old Trafford, has a checkered past both on and off the field.

He has found it difficult to make an impact after spells at Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United. He tried his luck in Rome with Italian outfit Lazio, but was soon shipped out on loan at Atlas in Mexico.

During his brief spell in Mexico Morrison was approached by Jamaica about an international call-up. The Manchester-born midfielder duly obtained his Jamaican passport and was selected for the Reggae Boyz’ initial 40-strong squad to tackle the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

However, he was omitted from the final 24 players who have reached the semi-final stage of the prestigious tournament for the third time on the bounce.

And to rub salt into his wounds, whilst the Boyz were strutting their stuff Morrison was released by Swedish top-flight club Ostersunds FK after only six months.

But Morrison has focused on his future and last Thursday was spotted at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium.

England midfield star Jesse Lingard posted on his Instagram account over the weekend that he was in training with Morrison ahead of pre-season training with his club Manchester United.

And the precocious Morrison, who has yet to represent the Reggae Boyz at senior level, could soon be a welcome addition for the Boyz as well as finally achieving his goal of becomjng one of the best footballers in the top tier.

This is not quite the last chance saloon for Morrison, just a further test of his resolve. If he can be carefully nurtured at Sheffield United then his silky skills should be a joy to watch in arguably the world’s most talented League.
