Reggae Boyz ready for Aruba

Jamaica are brimming with confidence after their last outing against Guyana

IN THE GOALS: Alvas Powell

ALVAS POWELL, who broke his duck with a brace in Guyana last month, will get the chance to add to his tally when Jamaica host Aruba on Saturday (Oct 12).

The FC Cincinnati defender, who has earned 45 caps for the Reggae Boyz, will be battling it out to make the scoresheet with two strikers who have been recalled.

The Santos de Guápiles FC pair of Jevon East and Maalique Foster, on loan in the Costa Rican top-tier from Jamaica’s Portmore United and Costa Rica side Alajuelense respectively, have been selected by head coach Theodore Whitmore to tackle Aruba in back-to-back CONCACAF Nations League ties.

Aruba visit Kingston’s National Stadium at Independence Park on Saturday and then host Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz inside the Ergilio Hato Stadium at Willemstad, Curaçao three days later (Oct 15).

Devon “Speedy” Williams, the Louisville City FC midfielder, is in the 22-player squad with a trio of Jamaican-based stars from the Red Stripe Premier League called up in the shape of Akeem Chambers,Ajeanie Talbott and Lemar Walker.

Leon Bailey, missing from the German top flight with Bayer Leverkusen because of a muscle strain, is a notable absentee along with British-based pair Daniel Johnson and Bobby Reid.

Whitmore will be expecting to early collect maximum points against minnows Aruba fron the two ties. Antigua & Barbuda stuttered past the Dutch Caribbean side 2-1 last month, bouncing back from the 6-0 thrashing by Jamaica.
