WEST HAM ace Michail Antonio has a genuine “desire” to play for Jamaica after having his international aspirations curtailed by England.

The Voice can reveal that only paperwork completion stands between Antonio, 30, being selected for Jamaica.

Michael Ricketts, president of the Jamaican Football Federation (JFF) told The Voice via a Zoom call: “I can be confirm that Michail Antonio is absolutely committed to playing for Jamaica and we expect him to do whatever it takes to qualify.

“He has been approached and is ready to play for Jamaica.

“Recently we had a meeting with him and his agent and he has expressed an absolute desire to play for Jamaica and to represent us.

“He jokingly said he has started the process of acquiring his Jamaican passport along with his wife!”

The West Ham forward turned down the chance to represent the Reggae Boyz in 2016 and was later called up to England squads by Sam Allardyce and Gareth Southgate but did not make his debut.

Antonio’s ‘signing’ is perfectly timed with the Federation hoping he will be available for the CONCACAF qualifiers in September against Mexico and Costa Rica.

The West Ham player has been in the form of his life. He has notched seven goals as the East London club eye Champions League football after a stellar campaign to date.

The JFF have been discussions with other Premier League and English Championship players who have expressed an interest in playing for Jamaica.

Among that number is Everton defender Mason Holgate and Reading captain Liam Moore.

The JFF president added: “Liam wants to represent Jamaica. He now has his Jamaican passport in hand!

“It is up to the coach to decide who plays but Liam is available.

“We are also looking at other players who have shown an interest too.

“We are in the process of looking at others who can assist our Gold Cup campaign and World Cup qualifiers.”

Jamaica head coach, the legendary Theodore Whitmore, said: “We continue to work on having the best players to represent Jamaica.

“The likes of Mason, and quite a few others, are on the list.”

“Once the heart is with Jamaica, nothing can stop the players whether that be interest from England, America or anybody else.”
