THE CONFEDERATION of African Football (CAF) and the Cote d’Ivoire Local Organising Committee (LOC) has launched the official countdown to TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023, and the entire world for the African continent’s biggest sporting event.

Is this good news, worthy of celebration and praise by African-heritage people?

The 2010 FIFA World Cup, in South Africa required the building of five world class football stadiums costing over fifty million pounds each; whilst the million of people who live in Soweto are without piped water and professional sewage disposal.

Even though Cote d’Ivoire Cocoa farmers produce a lion share of the world Cocoa pods; from which chocolate is made.
The West African Farmers do not earn enough from selling their Cocoa Pods to send their children to school.

We should not be celebrating this sporting even in Cote d’lvoire, whilst this level of poverty is uncorrected in West Africa.
