KICK IT OUT will partner with Haringey Council for an all-star panel event including international sports stars as part of Black History Month.

Former Tottenham and England defender Ledley King will be joined by ex-England cricketer Chris Lewis, as well as Kick It Out chair Sanjay Bhandari, Laurie Cunningham’s niece, Rhodene, and youth and sports development manager for Haringey Council, Clasford Stirling MBE.

They will discuss the Kick It Out-commissioned play, Getting The Third Degree, which is based on the life and legacy of the iconic footballer and former Haringey resident, Laurie Cunningham.

The event, which takes place from 6 until 8pm on Monday, November 4 at Marcus Garvey Library in Tottenham, north London, will also round off the Council’s extensive Black History Month activity.

The panel will be hosted by Kick It Out’s head of development, Troy Townsend, with the conversation ranging from memories of Cunningham to a deeper discussion about the fight against discrimination in the modern game.

Getting The Third Degree is being performed at London’s Greenwich Theatre on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November. It tells the inspirational story of one of England’s first black footballing superstars. Limited tickets remain for the Sunday showing and other performances across the country.

The play also confronts the extreme racism he and his fellow black professionals faced on and off the pitch against a backdrop of political unrest.

Laurie began his illustrious career at Leyton Orient before spells at West Bromwich Albion and Spanish giants Real Madrid. While at The Hawthorns, Laurie and his team mates Brendon Batson and Cyrille Regis were affectionately nicknamed the ‘Three Degrees’.
