Heard the one about Chronixx making his own plantain chips? See recipe below

Chronology artist wants to give fans an InSight into his current 'thoughts and interests' beyond the music

So that's where Chronixx has been hiding!

BY HIS own admission Chronixx has been quiet on social media during a time when many artists are choosing to vocalise how they are feeling as the world goes through this significant time.

So where has the Spanish Town artist been? Answer: ‘nourishing my body and spirit,’ he wrote in a recent newsletter.

As part of that process the proud Jamaican has been making his own plantain chips to snack on when the munchies kick in.

As well as providing a how to, step by step prep to make your own, The Dread & Terrible singer said new music was coming soon.

“During this time of global lockdowns, people have asked me why I was so quiet on social media.

“I have been spending time on nourishing my body and spirit – something which I would encourage each of you to do.

I have also been working on my finishing my second album, Dela Splash. It’s going to be released this year.

“My next single, ‘Same Prayer’, which I hope to release this month, will feature Kabaka Pyramid.

“I shot a video for it during lockdown in Jamaica, which came with its challenges but I look forward to you seeing it.”

He added: “I’ve been making plantain chips a lot recently as they’ve become a staple in my family now. This isn’t my own recipe, it was given to me online.” (See below)

Thoughtful: Chronixx

Those who follow Chronixx on social media closely would have already been privvy to some his musings but in his newsletter he shared a particularly reflective passage pertaining to the current afflictions being witnessed in America at present.

He wrote:

He who feeds you…. is your God

Who feeds black America?
Why do African countries owe debt to Europe?
Why are we still in the west/America?
Is our presence in the Western experience our own divine will?
What is it that we will for ourselves and our children’s children?
Are we thinking these children will not have children?
Are we destined to be obliterated by a strange people?
Is exodus a historic recollection, a myth or a prophecy?
Has America ever spoken a language of peace?
Will he understand if you ask peacefully for your human right to a portion of what he devoured other human races/peoples to achieve?
When he says ‘this is my country, go back from whence you have come’, can we truthfully say… “THIS IS OUR HOME, and I AM NOT GOING ANYWHERE”?
Is this our home? Are we not going anywhere?

Deep within the minds of people who are reading this are the answers to all mystery.

Think on these things.

RECIPE: PLANTAIN CHIPS

Ingredients
2 unripe green plantains
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt and fresh ground pepper
Canola oil spray & bake

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line baking sheets with foil and coat with cooking spray.

Using a sharp knife cut both ends off the plantain. This will make it easy to grab the skin of the plantains. Slit a shallow line down the long seam of the plantain, peel only as deep as the peel.

Remove plantain peel by pulling it back. If the plantain is straight from the fridge, you can run it through hot water for ease with peeling.

Slice the plantains thinly with the help of a slicer/mandolin for consistent results.

Mix plantains, salt and paprika. Toss them together.

Baked Plantains

Place them on a baking sheet in a single layer, spray lightly over the plantains using the canola oil spray and bake.

Turn over slices after eight minutes, but keeping baking for 12-20 minutes or until golden brown and crunchy.

Store in a sealed container.

Fried Plantains

Heat up a large skillet or cast iron with oil up to ½ inch on a medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.

Fry the plantain slices in batches, turning once, until golden brown. This may take about five minutes.

Do not overcrowd the pan, as it will make the plantains soggy. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried plantains and drain on paper towels.

Store in a sealed container.
