Music lovers launch new app

A NEW app for music lovers will launch at one of the world’s largest street festivals, the Notting Hill Carnival this year.

GoodMuse, started by business partners Jonathan Ambrose and David Ankrah, promises users the chance to find DJs and Events playing the music they love simply by selecting their favourite songs in the app.

Imagine being in London on a Friday night but despite not wanting to go home yet, you had no idea of what was happening locally music wise.

This is pretty much what happened to the long time friends and co-founders of GoodMuse, on a night out in Camden which is known to be a hub of nightlife in the capital.

“We just thought it was a tad ridiculous that we couldn’t find a place to go locally, so we thought it would be great to have an app service that did exactly that,” they enthused.

The pair were soon to learn that the journey to launch an app was not as straight forward as some may think.

“We’ve had to start over at least five times for various reasons including finding the right developers, but we now have the best version of the app with more features than before and further features planned on the roadmap after launch”

One of the key features is the ability to see which DJs and events match the songs you choose in the app.

So why songs and not just genres?

“Genres are cool, but your definition of Hip-Hop for example might be completely different from my definition.

“I might be more into Wu-Tang, KRS-ONE etc, and someone else might be into L’il Yatchy, Future etc. The lines are a little blurred nowadays,” Ambrose said.

With Ambrose ‘s background in property and Ankrah’s background in finance, the entrepreneurs brought in a third member of the team, Shuges Appiah, whose experience in Event Promotion and Artist Management would bring a new element to the project.

Choosing to launch the app at Notting Hill Carnival also gave the entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase the app live and have sound systems add details of their locations at Carnival plus any after parties, which you can view on a map in real time.

GoodMuse are also sponsors of the Funatiks Mas band this year, and their float will adorn promotional banners carrying a special QR code for the crowd to scan and download the app.

“We’re offering DJs and event organisers a hassle free, and algorithm free, way to showcase all their future events and reach new audiences who love what they play.”

The app is available for free in the UK on iOS from the App Store, and on Android from the Play Store, with plans to launch in other territories in the New Year.
