CAST: Love Island series nine

LOVE ISLAND returns for its ninth series on Monday and Jamaican citizen Kai Fagan says he’s ‘looking for the right girl’.

The 24-year-old is one of the 10 person cast looking for love on this year’s show, however, Fagan says he’ll only make a connection if he gets the right vibes.

Speaking on why he was single, the science and PE teacher said: “I’m single by choice. I’m looking for the right girl. I feel like I have quite high expectations.

“I don’t feel I should commit to someone unless I’m absolutely buzzing over them, because it’s not fair on them.”

The Manchester resident says his family describe him as ‘chilled, caring, very impulsive and a good guy.’

He added: “I always put my friends and family first and spend a lot of time with them.”
Fagan qualifies as a Jamaican citizen because he played rugby 7s for the country.

He’s not just into sport though. He enthused: “I play semi-professional rugby now for Burnage RFC. I’ve technically got three different degrees and went to three different unis.”

Record-breaking viewing figures saw Love Island become the most-watched series ever on ITV Hub, with more than 269 million streams last summer.

Returning to South Africa, lovestruck singletons will be guided through the twists and turns of coupling up in a stunning Villa, by brand new host Maya Jama.

Fagan will be joined by student in biomedical science and influencer, Tanya Manhenga.

The 22-year-old from Liverpool is excited about being a part of this year’s show.

“I’m looking for a boyfriend and I think being in a Villa with lots of different people will help me work out who it is I may want,” Manhenga enthused.

Any potential suitors will, however, need to pull their socks up, literally.

Detailing what will automatically get men the red card, she said: “Guys that don’t wear socks in the house.

“Why are your feet flapping all around the house? Guys have huge feet too, yuck. Also, guys in the bathtub with no bubbles, such an ick, no.”

Looking to steal the limelight, Shaq Muhammad said prior to the show kicking off that he was not scared to ‘go for what I want,’

He added: “I’m a great boyfriend. I’m very kind and thoughtful. Parents always love me. They say, ‘He’s a good person, you should marry him.’

“Once I’m with someone I’m always all about that person. I’m very vocal about that. I’m a catch.”

As the couples attempt to steal hearts and win over the nation, one pair will ultimately be victorious and be crowned the Love Island winners.

Hosting this years ‘Love Island: The Morning After’ podcast, will be last years popular cast member Indiyah Polak and Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson.

Offering advice for this year’s Islanders, Polak, who is still with Dami Hope following their successful coupling in season eight, said: “Be yourself and have fun!

“It’s a once in a lifetime experience so just have fun with it. Talk to as many people as you can because you’re there to find love at the end of the day. And even if you don’t I’m sure you’ll make some life long friendships.”

Love Island starts at 9pm Monday, January 16, on ITV2 and ITVX.
