Dean’s ‘Dive’ into seaside visuals are a hit

East London artist unveils video for new single lifted from debut album 'Messy'

DEAN DELIVERS: New visuals

“I WANTED this video to feel simple and free,” Olivia Dean says of her visuals for her new track ‘Dive’, shot in the streets of the UK seaside town of Hastings as she sings about falling into something new.

The visual for Dive arrives following the news of her latest, already sold out, London show as part of Somerset House’s Summer Series, and the announcement of the June 30 release of her highly anticipated debut album Messy.

Featuring the singles ‘Danger’ and ‘UFO’, Messy cements Dean as one of the most original and versatile voices in UK pop.

Crafting classic yet conversational hooks with genre-fluid tinges, she’s honed a way of exploring universal themes of love, loss and everything in between with razor-sharp but open-hearted storytelling.

In the video for ‘Dive‘, with its warm hues that boost the gloomy weather, director Candice Lo beautifully captures a sense of effortless joy that comes with falling in love.

Dean enthused: “I wanted this video to feel simple and free.”

“Sometimes the city can be quite claustrophobic and I just want to run away to the beach.

“The contrast between the two scenes I think is symbolic of the rush of falling in love. You just wanna let go and run in.

“We shot it on a windy, cold, rainy day in Hastings. Initially I was gonna swim but it felt a bit much haha.

“Loved Hastings and Momo who owned the cafe we shot in. His food was delicious, the best Moroccan food ever! I kind of loved that it was a rainy day ‘cos that’s the reality of English weather.”

Born and raised in Walthamstow, Dean has been praised for her endearing, down-to-earth lyrics and magnetic, feel-good live performances.

To date, she has released three acclaimed EPs Ok Love You Bye, What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays? and Growth and in 2021 achieved her first top 20 single with her cover of ‘The Christmas Song’, recorded for Amazon Originals.
