Knights Knot, a heart-warming festive tale for curly-haired kids

Knights Knot the book

IN A heartwarming twist, inspired by the magic and nostalgia of the iconic Christmas tale, The Snowman, Salem Wynter has released ‘Knights Knot’, an enchanting story of a young girl with afro hair, who embarks on a magical journey of self-discovery, and empowerment.

The story follows a young protagonist on her way to school, where she encounters a magical snowman who bestows upon her a special gift, transforming her Afro hair story.

Not only filling a representation gap in children’s literature and animation, it was also created to foster those fuzzy feelings of belonging and joy.

The magical gift bestowed upon the protagonist symbolises the potential within each child to rewrite their narrative positively, whereas the magical journey is a metaphor for the transformative power of self-acceptance and embracing one’s natural beauty.

The Director of Root2Tip haircare and the Hairducation Academy, Wynter, a pioneer in promoting healthy hair education and empowerment, believes that “Knight’s Knot” is not just a magical festive tale; it’s a powerful tool for boosting self-esteem and resilience in young readers.

The narrative not only celebrates diversity but encourages children to embrace their unique hair textures with pride.

Wynter said: “It was important that Knight’s Knot felt magical, heartwarming, engaging, and inspiring, while also having that educational undertone.

“I wanted it to provide representation in a really wholesome way, while educating on the unique challenges faced by children with textured hair, and also showing them how beautiful it is.”

Knight’s Knot will officially be released on December 9, at the Melanin Dreams Bookshop in London, but is currently available to pre-order via the Root2Tip website.

There is also a variety of gift packs to purchase – some of which include a Knight’s Knot hoody, hat, and a special edition version of the brands best-selling product, “Honey Rain Juice.”

On each book, there is a QR code which leads to the Knight’s Knot film.

At the end of the film, there will be a mini hair education lesson with Knight, teaching curly-haired kids how to detangle their hair – this will set the scene for an education programme that will launch next year.
