Jeff Darko brings Psychedelic Gospel to east London

Jeff Darko

FOR THOSE who want a dose of his ‘raw, unencumbered’ music, Jeff Darko, will be performing a live show next month at London’s Paper Dress Vintage.

The event, ‘Lar Lar Land Presents: A Psychedelic Gospel Experience’, will see the emerging British-Ghanaian neo-soul singer/songwriter showcase his inimitable, eclectic vibe and sound which he has created over the past few years since he made his musical debut, with a homage to vintage soul, RnB, electronica, afro-jazz, alt-pop and spoken word.

Blended together, it’s a musical amalgamation he describes as ‘Psychedelic Gospel’.

It is the ‘Psychedelic Gospel Experience’ that Darko will bring to Hackney venue Paper Dress Vintage, for his February 7 show featuring exciting emerging artists Nat Oaks and special guests to be announced, giving fans a unique cultural experience of Jeff’s music both sonically and lyrically, that is built around openness, vulnerability and truth.

Darko made his debut in 2021, receiving critical acclaim with the release of singles ‘Follow You’ and ‘Blue Skies’, followed by EP ‘Strange Dreams’ (2022).

Last year saw the release of three more singles ‘Feel Alright’, ‘Better Love’ and ‘Give It Thought’.

Darko enthused “Psychedelic’ has a core meaning psykhē in Greek, the revealing of the soul. When you reveal your soul, you represent your truth.

“This is why the music may sound unexpected because it has not been filtered, it’s raw, unencumbered. I grew up in an African Christian home, on a diet of Gospel music and Soul, and my musical identity comes from that deeply rooted place.

“I have found my flow in writing and recording my music, finding communion with my musical identity has been a revelation.”

Later in February will also see Darko release a new single ‘Feel Alright’ (Quiet Storm Remix).

The new single is a loungelovers paradise, smooth, neo soul that makes a nod to vintage RnB, with Darko’s distinctive, rich vocals and falsetto.
