BBC Radio 1Xtra has unveiled its new residencies for the year. The announcement, made by Nadia Jae, introduced four new presenters to the schedule who promise to ensure 2020 is an exciting year for the station as 1Xtra continues to play a pivotal role in bringing black and urban music to the mainstream.

1Xtra’s New 2020 Residencies are:

Docta Cosmic

Hailing from South London, Cosmic’s passion for music began as a teenager and after dropping out of university he decided to hone in on his DJ craft whilst promoting and hosting parties on the UK university scene. Fast forward to now, Docta Cosmic is known as DJ and Artist Manager to rap duo, Krept and Konan, whilst also earning the title of ‘Crowd Controller’ from his exciting and energetic style whilst DJ’ing across the UK.

Docta Cosmic says:Really happy to be joining the 1Xtra team and looking forward to be able to showcase my talents during this residency!”

Emerald

Since joining London-based station Rinse FM, Emerald’s career has been on an eye-catching trajectory due her vast genre knowledge, which spans across the electronic & club spectrum, from global house, UK funky, drum & bass all the way to R&B and Hip Hop. She has since performed at the likes of Annie Mac’s Lost & Found in Malta, Secret Garden Party, Afronation, Glastonbury & Ibiza Rocks. Her reputation as one of London’s key rising tastemakers and presenters continues to grow as her attitude and intelligence define her in the London scene.

Emerald says: “It’s an honour to be chosen as one of the new 1xtra residents. To be able to wholly curate a show filled with music and guests that I’m fully passionate about, on a platform as prolific as the BBC, is a very special venture.”

Fenn O’Meally

Fenn is a London-based Film Director who started her career with an internship at the BBC back in 2012, working on The One Show. It was there that she developed a taste for film making and later started delving more into music to add more layers to the stories she was portraying. The time she spent developing her style of both shooting and editing led to her shooting Stormzy and Raye back in 2019 and following a previous stint at 1Xtra through her ‘Girl On The Train’ segment, Fenn is back with a residency to bring listeners all things current from the world of film, music, fashion and general culture.

Fenn O’Meally says: I’m excited to join 1Xtra for the second time running and give you the DL and what’s going on behind the scenes. I’ll be catching up with both industry friends and people I’ve never met, from stylists, to music producers to other directors, we’ll be reminiscing some iconic moments in culture, talking about how make in their industries and what’s coming up next. It’s gonna be litttt.”

Novelist

Novelist, a Lewisham-born MC who has come up through the ranks in the Grime scene, released his debut album ‘Novelist Guy’ back in 2018 leading to a Mercury Prize nomination and his reputation as a musician to sky rocket. Fast forward to 2020, Novelist has been working across a whole host of projects, including the launch of his ’52 Weeks Of Fire’, which sees him and his friends drop new tracks regularly throughout the year.

Novelist says:I’m excited to showcase great music and have equally great conversations. Being part of the BBC 1XTRA team is an honour and the perfect platform to facilitate both”.
