Jamaican songstress, Jah9 is landing in London this weekend and will perform at the highly anticipated City Splash Festival in South London. For her set on May 29th, Jah9 chose to forgo a band, at least in the traditional sense of the word.
Instead, she will be joined onstage by a pair of background singers and recording engineer Hopeton “Scientist” Brown, who will tweak and tinker with the performances throughout his live dub mix of the show.
It will be a grand, mind-bending return for the Jamaican artist Jah9, who has largely put music on hold for the past three years as she’s embarked on a spiritual journey in Tanzania, her new home.
“Over the years, I’ve always found myself looking forward to shows in London. And now, I’m excited to present for my U.K. family after such a long time away. **It’s a pleasure to be able to bring them something new and different than what **they’re used to from me,” she said.
It will also mark her first time sharing her new song “Open Heart” with a live audience. The single will be out on May 26 via VP Records.
On reggae-soul track “Open Heart,” Jah9 frees herself from the strain of negative self-talk. The song reflects major influences in the seismic shifts in her life recently.
