POPULAR US chicken chain Popeyes is to open its first branch in the UK later this year.

With over 3,000 stores across the globe, many UK chicken-lovers are excited for the hotly anticipated launch day of the brand’s grand opening.

Popeyes was founded in New Orleans in 1972, and well known for its fried chicken which is marinated for 12 hours with traditional Louisiana seasoning.

The chain also offers a range of boneless chicken meals, such as tenders and their classic chicken sandwich. Fans hope that the US menu will make its way to the UK with seafood items like Cajun crispy shrimp and Cajun crispy surf and turf.

It is hoped that the new branch will create jobs in the UK, as the expected restaurant will be open for takeaway and delivery services.

Elias Diaz Sese, co-founder of Popeyes UK, told the Press Association: “The UK is such an exciting market, and we think the authenticity of our brand and product is something customers here want to see.

“We think we will really benefit the communities we move in to.

“It’s difficult to say exactly what the scale will be right now, but we are looking to create hundreds of jobs in the restaurants and in the supply chain.”

The first flagship store is likely to appear in London over the coming year asnd discussions are ongoing for other branches throughout the UK.

Mr Sese added: “We can’t confirm anything yet, but we are most probably looking at opening a flagship site in London.

“There are great locations for opening across the country and we are looking at our options right now.

“We are definitely looking at both busy city centre locations and neighbourhood high streets.”

Popeyes is planning to open 350 restaurants in the UK over the next 10 years and follows a long list of American food brands that have appeared in the UK food scene.
