7 Unique and fun activities to do in Mallorca

MALLORCA IS the largest of the Balearic Islands and one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain. Home to a hugely diverse set of landscapes, beaches, flora and fauna, the island is nothing short of stunning in every part of it. While most holiday-makers tend to enjoy the affordable resorts and the beautiful sandy beaches, there is so much more to Mallorca than just a sunbathing location. There are so many unique and fun activities travellers can get up to – here are 7 of our favourite picks!

Getting around in Mallorca

Before we get to the fun activities, let’s quickly cover how you will be getting to them. Perhaps the easiest thing to do is to rent a car at Palma de Mallorca airport with ROIG, upon your arrival. This will not only take the headache out of your airport transfer to the hotel but you will also have a mode of transport for the rest of your holiday.

However, if renting a car is not an option for you, public transport is an absolutely fine way to get around. Mallorca has a well-organised and clean network of buses that are also affordable. You can also use local taxis, just be mindful of the costs.

In other words, getting around in Mallorca is super simple so you don’t have to worry about finding your way to the below locations and activities!

1. Get active with water sports

You simply cannot visit Mallorca without making the most out of its turquoise blue waters. Besides just soaking up the sun and splashing around in the sea, you also have a wide range of water sports to try. From jet ski rides, kayaking, sailing and surfing to the more tranquil activities of diving and snorkelling – the beaches here are absolutely perfect for an active day out in the water.

2. Enjoy wine tasting in Binissalem

For all the wine lovers out there, the Binissalem region in Mallorca is a must. Not only is the location itself incredible with breathtaking views of mountains and charming local architecture, but the wine tours here are a brilliant idea for a day out. You will learn lots about the history of wine and how the locals used to make it, while also getting to try a variety of locally produced wines. We love a tasty and educational activity in one!

3. Hike at the Dry Stone Route

Another stunning destination in Mallorca is the beautiful Tramuntana mountains. The Dry Stone Route is the most iconic and well-known hiking route of Mallorca, which leads you through a range of picturesque mountain villages, forests, terraces of olive groves and unbelievable views all throughout. The hike will be an adventurous and rewarding experience as well as a great place for pictures.

4. Get on a vintage train

The vintage Ferrocarril de Sóller train dates back to 1912 and still runs from Palma de Mallorca to Soller as a tourist experience. The whole journey is only an hour long, however, the experience is much more fun than most people may think. The traditional wooden train is super charming and you will be presented with lots of spectacular scenery during your journey. This is a particularly fun trip for families with kids, while it can also be a romantic getaway for couples.

Once you arrive, there is also plenty to do at Sóller, including a beautiful port, world-renowned art galleries, quirky cafes and the impressive bowl-shaped Sóller valley.

5. Take a boat trip to the Caves of Drach

The Caves of Drach is one of the most magical locations in Mallorca, through which you may take a boat trip, walk through or even have a swim. The caves have been formed by the water from the Mediterranean Sea being forced through the entrance over thousands of years. They are now one of the most popular tourist attractions, so in addition to witnessing the beauty of this natural wonder, you can also get treated to a classical music concert at the end of it.

6. See Mallorca from a hot air balloon

Going on a hot air balloon is one of those experiences that most don’t think of doing yet they prove to be super fun and memorable. Mallorca has a large selection of services offering a hot air balloon ride above the lush Mediterranean waters and the breathtaking scenery of the island. The ride will last approximately 2 hours, during which you will be gazing at the astonishing panoramic views, taking some epic pictures and enjoying a refreshing glass of Champagne.

7. Take a Spanish cooking class

Most people will agree that the Spanish cuisine is by far one of the most delicious in the world. The various rice dishes, fish, seafood and various meat combinations, hearty stews and mouth-watering small tapas dishes and snacks..
