BLACK POUND Day has inspired many people to intentionally support black-owned business, whether online or in person of both.

Now Jamii is giving us another opportunity to discover and shop from black businesses with the launch of its pop-up store in Boxpark Shoreditch this week.

The discount card and discovery platform, launched in August 2016, will enable customers to find and shop with some of the UK’s best independent black-owned businesses.

BLACK POUND: The Jamii discount card

The pop-up launch comes after Jamii partners – business discoverable through the platform – experienced an outstanding impact following the first Black Pound Day in June.

Convenience

Among the brands whose products will feature in the store are natural haircare brand Afrocenchix, superfood skincare brand The Glowcery and Sznd Clothing.

Jamii founder, Khalia Ismain said: “I’ve long been passionate about how important it is to make black-owned brands as convenient to shop as any other alternative. Bringing so many incredible products together, in such a great location as Boxpark Shoreditch, is a fantastic chance to increase visibility and accessibility for black businesses, as well as removing many of the barriers that prohibit customers from discovering them.”

The Jamii platform is as an online marketplace for a plethora of black-owned brands, with products ranging from food and beverages and clothing to hair and beauty and business services.

The discount card gives members up to 40 per cent off when purchasing from Jamii partners both online and offline.

Measures, including limiting the number of customers in the store at one time to six, will be in place as part of efforts to ensure the safety of shoppers and staff.

An edit of products stocked in the pop-up will also be available online so that shoppers can browse ahead of their visit.

The pop-up store will be open from Wednesday 5 to Sunday 9 August. Opening hours are 11am – 7pm Wednesday to Saturday and 12-6pm on Sunday.
