THE OWNER of a Birmingham tuition centre which posted a GCSE pass rates of 90% last year, expects to repeat the feat by switching to online tutoring and parental support to counter the damaging impact COVID-19 could present to learning.

Birmingham’s Potential Unlocked Tuition is leveraging the power of online technology to continue its tutoring of primary and secondary pupils, also to resource parents and carers who have had to turn to home-schooling during the ongoing lockdown and social isolation.

“Turning to delivering our services online was the natural next step for us,” said David C. Hall.

“The situation schools and parents are now in has just brought the importance of being able to diversify our services into sharper focus by becoming an immediate and necessary requirement since the breakout of the pandemic.

“We understand how difficult it can be to home school children, either permanently or at this unprecedented time.”

Pass rates

The Winson Green-based centre – which tutors over 70 learners aged 5-16 and close to 250 since 2017 – achieved 83% and 90% pass rates in SATs and GCSEs respectively last year.

Potential Unlocked Tuition is receiving plaudits following its debut awards ceremony, which recognised excellence amongst its tutees, parents and educators from across the country.

“Our 2020 Annual Awards & Dinner was a night to remember,” recalled David of the black-tie event which was presented by BBC Television’s Nicola Beckford and preceded the lockdown.

The event doubled as a book launch in which David released his debut book, The Empowering Parent, which tells the inspirational story of his rising from shyness and dyslexia to become a qualified teacher, manager of the centre, to owning it outright.

“The situation schools and parents are now in has just brought the importance of being able to diversify our services into sharper focus.”

David, 36, adds: “It was a great honour to celebrate the achievements, not only of young learners but also individuals who daily nurture and positively shape the lives of children and young people every day.

“I know the importance of inspirational people from personal experience and Potential Unlocked was proud to acknowledge them.”

After confirming the awards will return next year, David concluded: “We firmly believe that every child is destined for greatness and that it is our role to facilitate the unlocking of their potential, which we hope our expanded services will help us to do.”
