Barbados to impose nightly curfews as COVID cases Jump To 24

Bridgetown in Barbados

BARBADOS IS to impose nightly curfews on the island as the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise.

In a national broadcast on March 26, Prime Minister Mia Mottley said her government intends to go to Parliament to amend the Emergency Management Act to allow for the curfew.

It will run from 8pm to 6am starting on Saturday, March 28 until Tuesday, April 14.

However, she said critical government departments will be allowed to open from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. and essential services will continue to operate.

In the meantime, Mottley is reporting that the number of coronavirus cases in Barbados has jumped from 18 to 24.

According to chief medical officer Dr Anton Best, 13 of the patients are women and 11 are men.

He also said 13 of the cases are imported with majority of them being Barbadians while 10 patients were in contact with the imported cases.

The other case is still under investigation.

All 24 patients are in isolation, Best said.

The best thing the Bajan authorities can do in this very early stage, while they have obvious control, is to test test test, if they have the means. 24 is an established number which means those 24 have doubtless been in contact with others. While the number of those infected is still low it should be a manageable task to try and test those who they have been in contact with. Also, though I suppose tourism is naturally down, testing should be established at Grantley Adams as standard practice for all coming into the country.

Being a major holiday location and gateway for cruises for Americans and Europeans. I would think the real number is many times more. How many people have been tested on the island.

If there is a God may she look down with compassion on the people of Barbados.
If there is a Mother Earth may she arise from her broken bows to sail us all to health

We are due to visit in November which would be our 10th visit since we first came to Barbados 30 years ago. God willing it will all be over by then but until that time best wishes to all of you who live in the world’s greatest place. Stay safe.

I am a Barbadian living in the UK for the past 40 years. I returned to Barbados for my son wedding last year on the 18th April 2019. I had a amazing time with all my family from the UK and Barbados. My son was due to be in Barbados when the country went into lock down with his wife and two young sons. We love you all.
My dear mother Olga Carrington and my brothers and cousin Lavonne Goodman has been updating me. Prime Minister you are doing a amazing job and thank you thank you for helping to keep my family safe. All the best to all Barbadians I hope to visit my country soon. Valencia (Goodman)McDonald.
