David Haye: No gym, no problem

Celebrities, sport organisations and general public share their top tips for staying home this bank holiday in the fight against coronavirus

THERE ARE a couple of good weather days in this Bank Holiday still to go and we know, you’re tempted to go out there and bask in the sunshine. DON’T. You’re on lockdown and so is everybody else.

This bank holiday weekend people have been showing their support for the government’s Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives campaign on social media by sharing their top tips for passing the time indoors, helping to protect the nation from coronavirus.

The government’s call has been supported across social media as celebrities including Eddie Izzard, Gary Lineker, Tyger Drew-Honey, Zoe Ball and Jo Whiley, whilst major sports bodies are also encouraging people to stay home.

The Premier League posted videos of encouragement from Rio Ferdinand and Ian Wright whilst the RFU shared Eddie Jones’ top ten sports content to watch across the weekend that included Football’s Funniest Moments and a re-run of 2010 contest between England and Australia.

England and Wales Cricket Board are also encouraging cricket lovers to mark what would have been the start of the County Championship season on Sunday, by filming themselves facing their first ball of the summer.

Whether it’s in the garden, the kitchen, the lounge or down a corridor, at 11 am on Sunday people can take part along with cricket fans all over the country using #CountyChampAtHome.

Haye would love to be out there training but he, like you, can’t. Stay At Home!

Whilst the good weather over the weekend is making it particularly challenging for those people who don’t have gardens or outdoor space, the general public is being encouraged to share the top ten activities they will be doing indoors this weekend to pass the hours using #StayHomeSaveLives.

These ‘top tens’ have already been championed by David Haye, Emma Willis, James King, James Wright, Gordon Smart and Tilly Ramsay across Instagram stories.

This call is being abided to by the majority of the country and members of the public are showing their support by sharing their eclectic top ten activities including baking carrot cake, having a quiz night, teaching their puppy a new trick and building a fort.

The support for #StayHomeSaveLives follows a call on Friday from Dr Hilary Jones for the nation to ‘please stay at home and be a couch potato until Tuesday’ to save lives.

Whilst bank holidays are traditionally a time when people are used to socialising with friends and family, the Stay Home Save Lives campaign is sending a message that this long weekend needs to be different.

Leaving the house for one form of exercise each day is encouraged to break up the sofa time, but ensure you follow the Government Guidance. Keep at least two metres apart from people on your daily walk, run or cycle – ideally on your own, or with members from your household. And remember to wash your hands thoroughly when you get home – even if you feel you haven’t touched anything outside.

If you do meet up with people or don’t abide by the social distancing from strangers, you can be fined by the police £60 on the spot. So, if you care about others and you care about helping the NHS, then please stay home this bank holiday weekend.
