A TWENTY-NINE-YEAR-OLD man who went viral after a TikTok user claimed he looked like rapper Stormzy is no longer on the streets, according to a teenager who helped raise money to support him.

Now, thanks to 17-year-old Najma Abdilahi, Akwasi has a safe place to stay.

Fundraising target reached

She set up a GoFundMe page to help A, and raised over £28,000.

Fairly soon, she shared that they were able to get the young man a haircut, clothing and other personal products.

However, Najma also wanted to help him long-term.

This is where difficulties arose.

Taking advice, she didn’t want to give such a large sum of money directly to someone who she claims suffered with addiction issues.

Rumours

As she looked for social workers who could help with A’s long term, complex needs – rumours began to spread on social media.

People would see A was still on the streets, and film him.

Perhaps confused, A would suggest he was not being helped at all in the videos.

To try and fix the situation, Najma released a statement.

She explained that she could not withdraw the GoFundMe money immediately and said the organisation had pushed back the release date several times.

In the meantime, she had provided A with accommodation, but he didn’t want to stay there.

She said: “I can’t force him as he has free will,” and asked for patience as she tried to secure long-term rehabilitative treatment.

A safe place to stay

Today, she released images on social media to support her claims.

The Voice has not independently verified the images.

However, they seem to show payments to a private drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in London, and appear to show that GoFundMe only released the money on September 16.
