Sasha Johnson Day event set to honour UK Black Lives Matter activist

Johnson suffered life-changing injuries after being shot in May 2021

SPECIAL EVENT: Campaigners are aiming to honour Sasha Johnson’s work and provide financial support as she recovers from her injuries

A SPECIAL day is being planned to honour and support Sasha Johnson, the prominent and highly respect Black Lives Matter Activist who tragically sustained life-changing injuries following a shooting incident at a house party in Peckham, south-east London, in May 2021.

The Sasha Johnson Day, scheduled for May 20th, with venue details to be announced in the next week, is aiming to celebrate Johnson’s work while also raising money to support the mother-of-two and her family through her rehabilitation.

Legacy

Johnson is said to be making steady progress in hospital. Organisers say the event is aimed at promoting her legacy, encouraging community cohesion and reinvigorating her GoFundMe fundraising campaign which has a £20,000 target.

Four men were due to stand trial at the Old Bailey in March last year in connection with the incident but the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced that the prosecution would not be pursuing the case.

As it stands, the people responsible for the attack on her have yet to be brought to justice.

Supporters of Johnson and her work are being encouraged to attend and support the event in any way they can.

Pain

Shakera Williams, Johnson’s sister, told The Voice: “Sasha deserves answers for what happened to her on May 23. The pain and scars will never go away but she is determined to rebuild her life to be there for her children. I would ask people who were there to come forward. Anything,  no matter how small it is, talk and break the silence and stand up against gun violence. We appreciate all the love and support.”

Event organiser Andrew Morris speaking about the importance of the event said: “Sasha Johnson Day is about keeping Sasha in people’s memories. I pray that all she did to support others in their time of need will be repaid. Sasha had a selfless desire to give a voice to the voiceless. I miss Sasha terribly. I really do.”

Johnson won many plaudits for her work in galvanising the Black Lives Matter movement in the UK and highlighting injustices faced by Black Britons.

The campaigner was instrumental in organising ‘Kill the Bill’ and ‘Rhodes Must Fall’ demonstrations in recent years.

The news of her attack and the injuries she sustained two years ago prompted an outpouring of messages of support from people all over the world.

It would be better for his Majesty’s African-heritage Subjects to used the day to investigate: organise, and seek solutions, to the pandemic of fatal knife; machete, and gun, peer-to-peer criminality; that has claimed over two hundred African-heritage lives since 2015.

How long will England’s African, and African-Caribbean-heritage women and men, continue ignore the growing delinquency in sections of our youth?

I never knew Sasha or attended any of her events, however, when she did come to my attention before this tragic incident, I supported her and what she stood for whole heartedly. Unfortunately, anyone who stands up and fights for the injustice of our black people against the system, they will try their level best to remove them from society, but not Sasha, she is too strong and determined. Her guardian, angels ancestors were and is looking down on her. I wish her a speedy recovery success happiness for her future and the future of her children.

Sasha Johnson was a very aggressive angry young woman who wished to defund the police .She openly called a educated black man a ” house N” word and challenged him to a fight. Than angry as she was she got shot by her own people and her community made a protective wall of silence around the young gentlemen who shot her. The police tried to get her justice by charging folks.A terrible tragedy

May God keep sasha safe and let her fully recover. We are all entitled to stand up for what we believe and although she seemed angry, perhaps if I was black I would feel the same. I don’t care, black or white, we are the same and no one deserves this to happen to them. I wish people would speak out as someone knows who did this. This strong beautiful young lady deserves justice, who ever shot her is a coward and whoever knows who did it are cowards too for not coming forward.

Why doesn’t the voice ever turn comments off or remove if offensive. This woman has children I’m sure they can read. The internet content lasts forever and your vile comments show your level of intelligence keep your pagan comments to yourself!
Speedy recovery for Sasha I hope one day she gets the justice she deserves.

Why has nobody come forward to help the family? The wall of silence is deafening and just goes to show how much her life matters. Were are the men who would dress up like a military unit and march with her? Why is nobody from the party speaking out? Were are the protests?

Why isn’t anyone willing to say the truth? That everyone assumed she was shot by whites, and then when it was shown that it was blacks who shot her, then all of a sudden the outcry was suddenly silenced. And to make matters worse, those who witnessed what happened clammed up, and the case was dropped!

This is so reflective of what happens in the black community. The overwhelming majority of killings are black on black, and black people do not cooperate with the police, so the cycle of violence continues.

    PS I am black myself.
