Silver lining for para sprinter Kare Adenegan

The Coventry ace claimed silver in the T33/34 100m at the Commonwealth Games

KARE ADENEGAN claimed silver in the T33/34 100m at the Commonwealth Games. The Coventry para sprinter was beaten Hannah Cockroft won gold while Fabienne Andre took the bronze medal.

Cockroft, who has seven Paralympic titles to her name, was competing at the Commonwealth Games for the first time and made no mistake as she set a new Games record time of 16.84.

Pre–Games Adenegan said: “To have the honour of representing England in a home Commonwealth Games is something truly special and we could not be prouder.”

She said via Instagram: “What a night at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, topped off with a silver medal.

“I feel so blessed to have been part of a historic night of athletics. An integrated celebration of athletics, that brought together both athletes with and without disabilities.

“It was a dream to compete in Birmingham, my backyard almost. The West Mids, my home. The thought of racing at home was what kept me going this year despite several bumps along the way.”
