Chris Hughton: Black manager demands more to escape slump

Nottingham Forest boss says his side must show more quality in offensive areas if they are to get out of their recent poor form

CALL: Chris Hughton

ENGLISH FOOTBALL’S most high profile black manager, Chris Hughton, has demanded more of his team as they face an early season crisis.

Nottingham Forest boss Hughton says his side must show more quality in offensive areas if they are to get out of their recent slump in form following another 2-0 defeat at Reading last weekend.

Ten-man Forest were well beaten at the Madejski Stadium by their high-flying hosts Reading and Hughton was left disappointed and frustrated at his side’s inability to stay in the game in the early stages of the second half as Reading took a two-goal lead.

Forest sit 21st in the Championship and have suffered four defeats in their last five fixtures.

Candid Hughton

A candid Hughton told the club’s website: ”We’re not having numerous clear-cut chances in games but we’ve certainly been in good enough areas and have had enough chances to take the pressure off ourselves.

“The situation we’re in is not one that we can avoid. It’s the responsibility of myself and my players to make sure we turn this around.

“We have to continue working hard on the training ground, show more in games and certainly show more quality in the final third of the pitch.”

Hughton, one of the professional game’s handful of black managers, was installed after being sacked by Brighton having got them into the Premier League.

Forest owners employed the former Newcastle and Norwich boss in the hope that he can get the east Midlands club into the top flight.
