LEON BAILEY, the Jamaican midfielder, has agreed to sign for Premier League outfit Aston Villa from German club Bayer Leverkusen.
The 23-year-old Kingston-born winger’s transfer is subject to successfully completing a medical and finalising personal terms.
Bailey, who had two years remaining on his contract with Leverkusen, made over 100 appearances for the side following his move from Belgian giants Genk.
He has ten caps for Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz and played at this month’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he finished on the winning side against both Guadeloupe and Suriname.
Bailey was unable to complete last season’s German Bundesliga season with a flourish because of a toe injury, but scored 15 goals.
The announcement was made by Aston Villa on social media, just seconds before the EPL outfit revealed that England midfielder Jack Grealish is subject to a £100m deal with big-spending Manchester City.
Bailey had turned down an offer from other English clubs in the past, snubbing Chelsea in 2019 and Leeds United last year.
Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United were also tracking the midfield maestro, who is likely to be back on international duty next month when the Boyz tackle their first three FIFA World Cup qualifiers in CONCACAF’s eight-nation round robin stages.
The exact amount has yet to be disclosed but Leverkusen demanded £40m with the original offer from Villa of £30m turned down during the week.
