FORMER ENGLAND defender Sol Campbell has taken to Twitter to voice his displeasure at not being named on the recent New Year’s honours list.

The ex-Arsenal and Tottenham player listed reasons why he feels he deserves recognition for career, saying at a time he was ‘the best defender in the world’

He concluded that he deserved to have been awarded an MBE or OBE as he had “stood up for racism in football here and abroad”.

Campbell has an impressive list of football credentials including being one of Arsenal’s Invincibles.

He was also the first Black captain to lift the FA Cup at Wembley with Portsmouth in 2008 and Campbell said via social media that he had been the only English player to play in six consecutive tournaments for England and had got into the World Cup team in both 1998 and 2002, as well as one European team in 2004, adding: “so at one stage I was pound for pound the best defender in the world”.

“How many English men can say that?” he said.

Campbell, now 48, said he would “challenge anyone who says I don’t deserve” to be honoured.
