RISING STAR Bailey-Tye Cadamarteri, whose breakthrough season last week earned him a call-up for Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz, has made a dramatic U-turn about his international allegiance.

The 18-year-old striker was named in the Jamaica squad that will tackle a star-studded US side in their CONCACAF Nations League semi-final on Thursday (March 21).

Yorkshire-born Cadamarteri, who has bagged four goals for struggling English Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday this term, was seen as a good prospect by Jamaica head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson.

Despite Cadamarteri having his Jamaican passport sorted, he has changed his mind about the Boyz and instead accepted to be part of the England U19 squad just 24 hours after being announced by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).

He posted his pride of being selected for England U19 on social media platform Instagram, and even added the England badge of the Three Lions as his emoji. The JFF have yet to comment about this debacle.

Instead of being involved in his maiden senior international at the AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas, Cadamarteri will be in Morocco. England U19 face Morocco U19 on Thursday at the Fat’h Union Sport Fus Stadium in Rabat. Three days later the USA U19 are the opponents at the Complexe Mohammed VI de Football Stadium in Sale.

Cadamarteri could theoretically play for England, Italy or Jamaica through his heritage. He had qualified to represent the Reggae Boyz through his father Danny, a former Everton ace in the 1990s and early 2000s.

He still has the option to switch his senior international allegiance from England to Jamaica because of the FIFA ruling regarding youth caps
