TWO SECOND half West Ham goals has almost condemned Leeds to a return to the Championship, reports the Voice of Sport from London Stadium.

It was do or die for Leeds but this 3-1 loss only gives them a slim chance of survival. They will need to beat Spurs on the final day of the season and hope that Everton fail to beat Bournemouth.

West Ham went into their final home game of the campaign knowing that their top flight status was secured as was a place in the Europa Conference League final next month. There was a bit a swagger around the London Stadium with that final in mind, their first in nearly 50 years.

The sub plot to this match was that Leeds were being managed by Sam Allardyce who was formerly in charge of the Hammers.

With Everton and Nottingham Forest taking valuable points over the weekend, it was now down to Leeds to register survival points with just that home game against Spurs coming up.

An entertaining first half saw Patrick Bamford with an early opportunity but his dubious first touch resulted only in a goal kick when he should have done better when attacking the United penalty area. The lively Bamford then set up Rodrigo who was equally wasteful.

Leeds, as their plight demanded, were full of energ and a Jack Harrison shot was comfortably saved by Lukasz Fabianski.

The hosts looked to gain a level of control and the stylish Lucas Paqueta had a blocked shot. The Brazilian was sheer class all match with his deft left foot.

But Leeds deservedly took the lead in the 17th minute when Rodrigo did find his shooting boots to fire home after a long throw-in by Weston McKennie found the striker in the West Ham area.

The goal woke West Ham up.

Midfielder Tomas Soucek was denied by Joel Robles after a Jarrod Bowen corner as the hosts finally came to the party.

Just past the half hour mark, home captain Declan Rice – on the back post -expertly tucked home after being found by a tidy Bowen pass. It may well be Rice’s last goal for the Hammers at London Stadium with him touted to move during the summer.

Minutes later Paqueta set up Pablo Fornals but he fired just wide. Emerson was the next to be thwarted by the busy Leeds ‘keeper.

With the half in added on time both Rodrigo and Harrison showed a lack of quality when well placed to give their side a crucial advantage.

A Paqueta shot just after nearly saw Leeds pay a heavy price for their wastefulness.

West Ham dominated the second half. Paqueta’s battle with Robles continued as another effort was seen off by Leeds’ best player.

Soucek then had his header saved by Robles who was certainly earning his corn. This match, however, was a cameo of Leeds’ season with a lack of desire and quality.

Bowen was only denied by last ditch defending but he would get his goal. On 72 minutes he fired home from close range after being put through by Danny Ings.

The visitors looked to hit back via sub Crysenico Summerville but he was foiled by a determined and alert home fence.

Manuel Lanzini put the icing on West Ham’s cake as Leeds’ spell in the top flight looks to be over.
